Microsoft's new Natural Wireless Laser Mouse is more of a happy medium between 3M's unique design and that of a typical mouse.

Serious sufferers of repetitive stress-related injuries should definitely consult a doctor before using this or any other nonqualified review for medical advice. We will say that as an alternative input device, we found Microsoft's new mouse comfortable and easy to use, but a few design miscues make us wish Microsoft had given this mouse more thought. The most obvious feature of the Natural Wireless is that, unlike standard mouse designs, this model's buttons, wheel, and palm rest upward to the right.

It lends the mouse a unique shape, but it also has the effect of rolling your wrist up off your desk. Your reviewer will refrain from commenting on any therapeutic benefits this mouse might have, but I'll simply rely on my credentials as a longtime mouse user and say that this design feels less stressful on my wrist.

I also found it easy to adjust to the nonstandard hand position. I am so pleased with it, that I placed an order for a second one to take to my office. Overall Review: If you have felt any type of discomfort with your mouse, the ergonomic design of this one is a big help to ease the tension and stress of your hand. It really is a very comfortable mouse. Pros: I have nothing but praise for this mouse after the brief adjustment to its shape. I find that it responds quickly and with precision.

I use it for 3d Modeling and gaming, and it meets my needs extremely well. Battery life seems to be excellent, despite my almost constant use. Cons: The only points I can even make are hardly worth mentioning.

It did take a day or two to get used to the higher profile, but to be honest it is MUCH more comfortable for me I have large hands and long fingers , and now when I grab my wife's mouse for something it feels much too flat.

My only other nitpick was the default button settings. The Intellimouse software has one set up for automatically zooming a zone on the screen, and another for switching between applications. I'm far too locked into my Alt-Tab for swithcing apps, and I certainly don't need the zoom. Fortunstely the software allows you to reconfigure those settings, so it was easily dealt with.

Overall Review: My old mouse's scroll wheel had the tactile 'clicks' when it was scrolled, and I kind of miss that when faced with the utterly smooth scroll on this mouse - but I am becoming accustomed to it, and this scroll doesn't have the annoying tendency to occasionally snap back that my old one did.

If you're looking for a new wireless mouse, and you're not afraid to get used to the high profile, grab this one. Pros: This is absolutely the most comfortable mouse I've ever used.

Even better, perhaps, is that since it's a laser mouse, it works on virtually any surface excluding reflective surfaces, of course. I never knew how badly I wanted to just be able to use the arm of my couch as a mouse pad, but that's what I catch myself doing now :.

Cons: The thing is extremely inaccurate and cumbersome. This doesn't sound like a big deal if you're not the type to do a lot of artistic design or gaming or if you have a tablet for one, and a controller for the other, for example.

The accuracy issues become very relevant when it comes to highlighting text. It's surprisingly difficult to select exactly the text you want, and it actually becomes quite frustrating. Additionally, I have no particular issues with the brand. I've had several popular models of Microsoft mouse in the past, and all have worked much better than this one.

Pros: Wierd fell at first but after a while of using it I have grown to like it. I belive this is a hardware issue with the mouse. I have 2 of these on different computers, and within 1 month of each other they started having the same problem one on Vista, one on XP Pro. The problem seems to be the left-click connector for me. Many times it takes mutliple clicks for it to actually take. Also, many time the click takes, but the un-click doens't.

Meaning that the link or button I'm clicking on the page registers, but never comes back up or completes , so I have to click it again. It all comes down the the clicking mechanism not working properly anymore.

RaXeT, you'r a genius! I replaced my laptop 3 weeks ago with a new one and kept my good old Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2. Problem is, the scroll wheel was very slow and the IE back and forward buttons thumb buttons were not working, actually they worked 'once' after a restart. I re-installed drivers, played with setting etc Googled "Vista mouse Problem" and read literaly 's of posts on several boards.

Then I read your post! Because the USB port is in a different position physically on the new laptop, the natural position of the receiver ended up about 10" to 12" away from the mouse. I moved it right in front of the mouse and everything is now working great! I am experiencing the same frustrating intermittent symptoms with the Microsoft keyboard and mouse combo and more than once was tempted to return it to the vendor.

I also have a Vista bit OS and find myself "pairing up" the transmitter with both the keyboard and the mouse all the time to be able to ensure adequate operation inspite of a close proximity of about 1.

I also would appreciate any insight into a permanent fix. Thank you in advance, Northern CA. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Resources for IT Professionals. Sign in. United States English. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads.
