Log home replacement windows

Fiberglass is a strong, durable material, making it ideal for large expanses of glass and virtually maintenance-free. Decide how you want each window to look and perform. Some styles are designed to let in natural light, some to take advantage of views and some to let in cool summer breezes. Casement windows consist of one sash hinged to a side jamb. They usually open outward from the sill by a crank handle or slider bar. They offer good ventilation and are known for their weather-tight construction.

Double-hung windows feature two sashes that slide along side jambs from top to bottom. They give a traditional appearance and are easy to clean. Awning windows feature a sash that pivots at the top. Americana will replace or repair any failure of workmanship or material including, but not limited to, warpage, pitchbleeding, windbreaks, etc. At Andersen, our drive to make windows that are different and better has been at the heart of our company for over a century.

The final option involves installing a new window into a blank log wall. This requires that the logs be cut to the rough opening of the new window plus three inches for the 2 x 6 frame. The difficulty with this sort of blind cutting is that there are usually long nails scattered throughout the log wall. Plan on hitting a few. The installation shown in the final two pictures successfully transformed the dark corner of a living room into a bright, sunny space.

Once you know your options, installing new windows into a log home can be a worthwhile and cost effective project. It seems like the only replacement these days is vinyl, and every model I've looked at in a showroom has all the trim attached. Is there such a thing as a style of window with no trim?

Or just the minimum necessary to drain water out over the wood sill piece? I suppose I could go to the flashy window dealer in town with a better description of what I want, but I'm hoping to do my on-line research first.

I can't seem to find specifically what I'm looking for at any manufacturers web site. The walls are 16 in. With that, the way the wood trim works, there are 4 pieces of face trim on each side, then the casing? I'm also on a budget here, looking for basic efficiency and ability to hide the frame with basic wood trim, no bling, fancy trim. What model should I research? Will their website include installation instructions, sample pictures of installation?

The windows in showrooms probably have trim attached just to look pretty. The only "trim" I've ever seen attached when shipped are the jamb extensions. I would expect any window that is available in custom sizes is available without jamb extensions, certainly without other trim. As Greebo said, ask questions. In a similar vein, websites can be useless, just pretty pictures. It can be hard to find, but sometimes some useful information can be downloaded as pdfs.

It's pretty variable.
