I want them to be together but I don't see any option to combine them. I've only just made them, I haven't done anything else. Before I start playing I want to move them into the same household so I don't have to recreate both of them. When you're playing in the neighborhood, click on the options key The circle at the bottom with " When here, you can add more houses, copy families, and delete lots.

Find the family you want to combine with the family you're playing and click on "Make Copy" It now makes a copy of that sim that you can add to any house.

Drag it to the house you would like to combine it with, and BAM! You've combined 2 households!
